"Tihei Mauriora, ki te Whaiao, ki te Ao Marama”
~

The breath of life that moves us from darkness into a world of light

Kia ora, nau mai, haere mai - WELCOME!

~ You don't need to do this on your own ~

Firstly, well done for your courage! Reaching out for support and finding the right fit can be a daunting process. If you’re here, you have likely tried different things without success and are open to trying something new.

Everyone deserves to reach their full potential. The good news is that your brain has the ability to rewire itself! It is possible for you to learn new ways of thinking along with effective strategies to manage your difficulties. I help you exchange responses that aren’t working – or even harmful – for workable strategies to living a vital life, aligned with your goals and values.

The powerful, creative, and connected being you know you are deep within, is available for you to access – with the correct guidance and support.

I provide an environment of safety and trust for increased personal awareness and growth. The space I offer is welcoming, open, calm, warm, kind, friendly, empathic, encouraging, affirming, validating, accepting, compassionate, optimistic, hopeful, creative, sensitive, curious, responsive, non-blaming, non-judgmental; sometimes fun, and other times perhaps challenging. I am here for you every step of the way, and everything we discuss is entirely confidential.

The focus is on results and on moving forward. The goal is for you to heal the past and to grow towards a meaningful and fulfilling life on all your desired levels.

Difficult experiences in life are inevitable. You may find yourself overwhelmed by challenges, feeling low, depressed, anxious, worried, scared, or just off-balance. At times of confusion and anxiety, your known ways of coping may no longer work, or worse – be harmful. It is a time to find your centre and ground.

Therapy can help you gain awareness, make sense of the chaos, uncover and reconnect you to your inner strength, your vitality, your mojo, and learn skills, which will serve you for a lifetime.

I empower clients to be strong and flexible, like the willow tree in the wind. I teach how to understand and work with emotions. Your emotions can be challenging, but they are the embodied gateway to your growth and transformation.

Experience a renewed sweet sense of adventure!

Meet Mo

I am passionate about making a difference in my clients’ lives – in moving forward with their challenges. I contribute this way to the healing of society and the planet, one person at a time. Most importantly, I practice what I teach – in other words, I never use with a client a technique or practice that I haven’t experienced myself as effective.

Seeing people resurface and flourish in their lives is an incredibly rewarding experience for me. Having offered over 1,800 sessions, I deeply know that trauma and psychological distress are treatable. I also believe that therapy can be fun!

I admire you for your courage in taking the important step and investing in yourself, and I am looking forward to working with you!

Mo (short for Mordecai) is a trained counsellor and registered as full member with NZAC (NZ’s national counsellors’ board), with previous careers in the performing arts, public affairs communications, and the corporate world. Originally from Jerusalem, Israel, he has immigrated to Aotearoa (New Zealand) 20 years ago, is a father of three and is now based on the beautiful Waiheke Island.

Mo has been himself on the journey of growth and embodiment for well over two decades, practicing yoga, meditation, shamanism, tantra, martial arts, and shadow work.

I had to overcome life challenges such as fatherlessness, religious upbringing, immigration to a new country, raising children with little support, marriage break-up and co-parenting; career, relationships, and addictions challenges…

These life events have pushed me to learn skills and tools that work; effective techniques to remove blockages to experience growth, flourishing, and abundance. –  It is my life’s purpose to share these tools and support the thriving of others.

In recent years Mo worked as domestic violence specialist at Living Without Violence on Waiheke Island. There, in addition to offering couples and individual therapy, he facilitated the nonviolence programme (aka anger management course) for men.

Mo has also taught mindfulness for stress reduction courses with Renew Your Mind.

Mo holds space in transformational retreats, festivals, and men circles in the community. Add yourself to the email list or get in touch, to book Mo, find out about upcoming events, and/or discuss your needs.

Holistic Transformational Counselling

For most people, having a trusted listener, being able to be yourself and be heard – without being judged or told what to feel or do – can be healing and helpful.

Talking with a therapist can also help you develop insight, understanding, and clarity that open new perspectives on how to approach your issues.

Self-awareness of your inner world, brings about self-regulation in your outer world, and ultimately results in achieving the outcomes you are aiming for.

My approach is integrative-holistic, embodied-somatic-experiential, humanistic, trauma informed, and emotionally focused. I integrate evidence-based interventions and models, specifically tailored to each person, in line with their values and goals.

Together, we gain insight, unpack, and uncover limiting core beliefs, memories, patterns, and underlying issues that cause unhelpful habits and behaviours, and in turn, the reccurance of unwanted situations.

We work to remove the obstacles to your growth.

The main working models that underpin my practice are: Mindfulness, Attachment, Polyvagal, Anthroposophy, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Integral theories.

Take a deep Breath ...

It's skills - not pills

Meditation - not medication

Therapy modalities I use in my practice are:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS),
  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP),
  • Solution Focused (SFBT) & Narrative therapy (NT).
  • Focused Acceptance and Commitment (FACT),
  • Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour (DBT),
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR),
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Compassionate Inquiry (CI),
  • Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Influences and ideas are also often drawn from: Transactional Analysis, Sensory-Motor, Gestalt, Hakomi, Hypnotherapy & NLP, Jungian analytical-archetypal depth psychology, movement, drama & ritual theatre, Tantra, Shamanism, Taoism, Yoga, ccontemplative traditions & martial arts (especially Taiji & Qigong).

Embodiment-Mindfulness training and awareness of the mind-body connection are key for change to come with less effort. In therapy, it is useful to develop the capacity to observe, but not be overwhelmed by our experience – be it thoughts, feelings, or body sensations (e.g. tightness in your stomach, solar plexus or throat, or tense shoulders). This capacity to observe comes with consistent practice.

My role is to be your compassionate and validating ally and coach. You will be listened to, accepted, and respected. I may ask questions that serve to gain clarity, awareness and meaning around specific issues. I will encourage you to work towards lasting positive outcomes that will enhance your wellbeing; overcome feelings of stuckness or depression, heal traumas / phobias, get better sleep, more energy, and self-confidence.

You are in the right place if you are experiencing painful feelings that you are struggling to cope with; if you are feeling overwhelmed and/or alone; you are stuck in a relationship dynamic that is getting you down; you are generally feeling out of sorts; you feel like you need or want to develop more self-love and self-understanding; you feel disconnected from your inner resources; you are feeling lost, confused, or uncertain about the direction of your life.

Bringing together age-old wisdom with cutting-edge neuroscience creates effective therapy.
